6.22.16 – The “Best Day Ever” – At least this week!

Today, 6.22.16, is pretty darn close to the top of my “best day ever” list!

* A little backstory that most of our family & friends already know… My husband has been in the Army for 15 years. He has served as a combat infantryman for 2 tours in Iraq, and then for 2 in Afghanistan. While serving in Afghanistan in 2011 he injured his back, and after years of just sucking it up (apparently, ya can’t be a big bad infantryman with a messed up back) and being told to work through the pain he just couldn’t take it anymore. He was told in October that the injury he sustained and the subsequent issues that the injury caused him would be ending his Army career. We knew due to the nature of the injury and amount of other issues that it has caused, he would be medically retired. Of course, most of you also know all of the health issues that our “too sweet” little girl has, so not having insurance if he did not meet the percentage requirements would be devastating to our family. *

Fast forward to now & the amazing news we received today, 6.22.16. Garth has been working through the Medical Evaluation Board process, going to countless appointments each week. We have been anxiously awaiting the Army and Department of Veterans Affairs to notify us of the retirement percentages based on their findings, and today was the day. We found out that Garth will receive 100% disability through the VA, and more than meets the requirements to keep our insurance for life.

Our family will be moving back “home” at the end of July. We could not be more excited to finally be able to spend time with our families and friends and make up for all of the lost time. We are also beyond happy to finally build and own our first and forever home, after a marriage full of renting and moving! More info on our home plans will be coming in a separate blog post very soon, be on the lookout.

There have been so many people praying for us and encouraging us throughout this entire process, and we thank you all so very much. God is good, and we have faith that he will continue to provide for us.

  2. These days when we hear so much about how our military vets are not getting the support they deserve this is a wonderful breath of fresh air. I am so happy for your family. This seems only fair after putting his life on the line for our country. Praise the Lord!
